Thank You MU

Dec 20, 2018

Christmas is traditionally a time for families to get together and celebrate. Sadly though for many of Newcastle’s most vulnerable people, even receiving a Christmas card is unlikely. Now however, a caring group from the Mothers’ Union have helped to redress that situation by making sure that everyone has a present to open this Christmas.

Members of the Mothers’ Union Diocese of Newcastle have pooled their resources to provide The People’s Kitchen with more than 500 gift wrapped shoeboxes full of gifts. All contain practical items like toothpaste, socks and hats and there are also sweets, chocolate and biscuits. In addition, a food hamper was provided as a raffle prize at the recent People’s Kitchen street party.  The boxes were put together by MU members from Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland.

Visiting The People’s Kitchen representing the Mothers’ Union were Diocesan President, Canon Barbara Packer and Action And Outreach Coordinator Linda Benneworth. They were thanked by Trustee Jackie Boardman and given a brief history of the charity and a tour of the building.

Jackie said: “ We were delighted to receive the shoe boxes from Newcastle Diocese Mothers’ Union. A lot of thought and effort has gone into making them and they were incredibly well received by our friends at the street party. They have put a little bit of normality into those people’s lives and everyone is very grateful.”

The Newcastle Diocese Mothers’ Union are doing a lot of other good things within the community too including compiling a new recipe book to help create nutritious and inexpensive meals for those needing help from food banks.
