A top sales executive who has worked for some of the biggest newspapers, magazines and internet companies has put his expertise and experience to good use to produce a new magazine for the hard to reach communities of Northumberland.
Chris Newton, (37) from Stamfordham realised that his rural lifestyle prevented him from easily gaining access to quality printed publicity material which is readily available in the bigger towns and cities of the region.
He also identified that there were a tremendous amount of businesses in the rural areas of Northumberland and that they too needed a vehicle to raise their profile and bring business into the area.
The result is a new magazine, “Rural Post” which features businesses in the Tyne Valley belt including Corbridge, Wylam, Hexham, Matfen, Stamfordham and across to Ponteland. Introduced in September, the magazine has a monthly readership of 12,000 and its low cost A5 format has proved popular with advertisers and readers alike.
As well as distributing the magazine through letter boxes, Chris has also struck a distribution deal with selected supermarkets, large hotels and other outlets.
Chris attributes a lot of the magazines success to its fresh, exciting yet different look which was designed to
make it appealing and interesting to both readers and advertisers. Indeed, Chris has ambitious plans for “Rural Post “ including extending the distribution network to include coastal Northumberland, featuring more editorial relevant to the country community and being the first choice of rural people to look up businesses in their area.
“There are a lot of quality, high end businesses in the rural communities of Northumberland and “Rural Post” is designed to help them find even more business by encouraging customers to shop local rather than going into the big towns and cities. I think we have the right combination of quality with affordability to bring in big business to the rural community.”
